The Engineer’s Worst Nightmare

I thought logic could beat thee, Poetry.
All that I had to do was find thy key,
Emancipate thy secrets hid from me,
Unlock thy code so I could clearly see
Thy workings to provide me clarity.

These verses must be gears and cogs —
Parts of a well-oiled machine —
Orderly placed — Part of a scheme;
Yet this machine hid in the fogs.

There must be a trick to stick
Together words, graceful songbirds.
Is it here?  No, it is not near.

O, how you jealously guard your mind!
Have you no reasoning to find?

Tell me, poem, what makes you tick?

-Conquered by frustration now you can see
Logical Minds do not know Poetry;
Nothing like a machine, my soul is free:
No blueprint can define the spark in me!
