THE TWELFTH ANNUAL

Pacific Islands Taro Festival

Line of stones

Held on August 12, 2000 was a tremendous success. There were a few booths offering samples of poi, a Chinese taro dessert, haupia, and kulolo for tasting as well as purchasing. The kulolo sold fast

The cultural presentations were provided by the Cook Island Dancers, the Tongan Dancers, a Samoan Dancer, Nami Kaji, Kuhai Halau O'Kahealani Pa Olapa Kahiko, David "Kawika" Kahiapo, and Fred Gayagas.

"The Taste of Taro" was well received. The featured chefs were Paul Onishi of Castle Medical Center, Tom Muramoto of Ka'anapali Beach Hotel, Chris Speere of Maui's Pauwela Cafe and chef instructor of the award-winning Maui Community College Culinary Arts Program, and Titus Chan, WCC chef instructor. Some very delectable, wonderful food was prepared and tasted in demonstrations.

Thanks to all patrons, vendors, and volunteers for your continued support. Without you, our Annual Taro Festival would not be possible.
